The end of the school year is approaching and that means it's almost time for final exams. I don't know about you, but review days aren't my favorite, but I find that incorporating games into the classroom can make the process more enjoyable and engaging for everyone. Any added element of competition is a win for my students. Here's a few tried and true review activities for you to use if you feel stuck in review rut!
1. Jeopardy: A classic game that can be easily adapted to any subject matter, Jeopardy is a fun way to review for exams. Create categories based on the topics covered throughout the year and assign point values for each question. Divide the class into teams and let the competition begin! You can create your own of use jeopardylabs.com to make the job much easier! They have a ton ready to use as well.
2. Kahoot!: Kahoot.com is a game-based learning platform that allows you to create quizzes and surveys to engage your students. You can create your own quizzes or use ones that have already been created by other educators. Students can use their smartphones, tablets, or computers to participate in the quiz, and the leaderboard will show the top scorers.
3. Math Bingo: Another classic game that can be adapted to any subject matter, Math Bingo is a fun way to review for exams. Create bingo cards with math problems instead of numbers and have students mark off the answers as you call them out. The first student to get a full line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) wins!
4. Math Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt around the school or classroom with math problems and clues. Each problem will lead students to the next clue, and the final clue will lead them to the prize (which can be anything from candy to extra credit points). This game not only reviews math concepts but also gets students up and moving around the classroom.
5. Math Relay Race: Divide the class into teams and create a relay race with math problems. The first student on each team will run to the board, solve the problem, and run back to tag the next student in line. The first team to finish the race wins!
6. Math Board Games: Create your own or find a fun Algebra or Geometry Board game in my store, ready to play!
Incorporating games into your classroom can make reviewing for final exams more enjoyable and engaging for everyone. These are just a few examples of the many games you can play in your math classroom. The key is to make reviewing fun and interactive so that your students are motivated to participate. Good luck with your final exam reviews!
